What is Your Leadership Style?

Youth Services librarians are invited to participate in a pre-conference focusing on leadership, management and professional development.

 

The Youth Services Pre-Conference and programs have been partially funded with federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

Managing Youth Services with Examples from Children's Literature

Presented by Ellen Riordan, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore

Using characters and stories from picture books such as Olivia, Seven Blind Mice and the Bremen Town Musicians, the speaker will inspire participants to become more effective collaborators, managers, problem solvers and communicators.

Improving the Impact of Youth Services through Image and Influence

Presented by Susan Berk, Management Consultant

Susan Berk is a management consultant who has worked extensively with libraries in California to improve customer service.  This session will focus on helping Youth Services librarians improve their image and influence both inside the library and in the community.

11:30 to 12:15 pm

Presented by Sharon Julian-Milas, Director, Pleasant Hills Public Library and by Cynthia Richey, Director, Mt. Lebanon Public Library

Sharon recently became a Director after working as a Youth Services librarian.  She will share her thoughts on how the skills she learned and used in the children's department have helped her in her new role.  Cynthia, also a former children's librarian, will reflect on a Director's view of youth services.
