Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries and PaLA's Trustee Division host a luncheon at the conference on topics of interest to library advocates.

This year, Dr. Delia Neuman, associate professor and director of the School Library Media Program and Drexel University, will be the featured speaker at the Trustee Division/ PCBL Luncheon on Sunday, November 9, 2008. Neuman, a prolific author who has written two books and has a third one, Learning in Information-Rich Environments, scheduled for publication in spring 2009, is an authority on school library media issues, information as a learning tool, instructional design and technology, and research methodology.

At the luncheon, Dr. Neuman will explore the future of libraries and will identify emerging issues of which all library trustees and staff must be aware if their libraries are to survive and thrive in ever- changing, technology-driven library environments. Dr. Neuman will also present a second talk, “Learning in Information-Rich Environments.” According to Neuman, “to be efficient and effective learners in the information age, students and others must be able to access, evaluate, and use various kinds of information, presented in a variety of formats.” To facilitate this process, Neuman will discuss how the I-LEARN Model (Identify, Locate, Evaluate, Apply, Know) is used to navigate the bewildering amount of information learners confront.

Neuman joined Drexel in January 2008, and previously coordinated the School Library Media Program at The College of Library and Information Services at the University of Maryland. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from Ohio State, an MA in English from the University of Michigan, and an AB in English from Chestnut Hill College.

Conference goers should plan to register for the luncheon and to attend Dr. Neuman’s additional program. Keen insights into the future of our profession and how to effectively serve the changing needs of library users will be revealed.
